Samuel Koch
Quad Instructor

Sam Koch is the Assistant Percussion Director for the Independence High School and
Nelson Middle School cluster in Frisco, Texas. He also serves on the quad staff at the
Memphis Blues drum corps.
As an educator, Sam has worked with many schools in the DFW area. His most recent
work includes completing his internship as a student teacher at V.R. Eaton High School
and Leo Adams Middle School in Haslet, Texas. In addition to student teaching, Sam
served as a battery instructor at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas and at
Vines and Clark High School(s) in Plano, Texas.
Alongside his teaching endeavors, Sam has also had several performance experiences
that have heightened his musicianship. While at the University of North Texas, Sam
marched in the Green Brigade marching band for 3 years and was awarded
“Outstanding Percussion Member of the Year” in 2023.
Sam was also a member of the UNT Percussion Ensemble, Quad Ensemble, Wind
Orchestra, and Two O'clock Steel Band. He toured Poland with the UNT Percussion
Ensemble in 2023 where he got to perform and collaborate with several music students
from the area. Additionally, both years when Sam was in the UNT Quad Ensemble in
2022 and 2023, he received gold medals in the University Small Marching Ensemble
Category at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). Sam has
also marched quads with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps based in Casper,
Wyoming for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
