Ben Koch
Bass Instructor

Ben Koch is an educator, composer, arranger, and percussionist that serves as Director of
Percussion at Hebron High School and its 3 cluster Middle Schools in Carrollton, TX. In this role,
he coordinates the total vertical percussion program including marching and concert percussion
ensembles, middle school percussion classes, and 6th grade beginner percussion classes at all
3 feeders. The drumline under his direction has been named grand champion, won best caption
awards, and been a consistent medalist at Drumline contests around Texas. Mr. Koch’s students
have made the Texas All-State band, DCI finalist drum corps, and competed successfully at
international percussion solo contests. The Hebron Percussion Ensemble under his direction
were 2025 winners of the Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble
Competition(IPEC).
Mr. Koch holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas. As an
undergraduate student, he performed in many of the University’s premiere music ensembles
and served on educational staff for the Green Brigade Marching Band. His notable professors
include Paul Rennick, Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Ed Smith, Stockton Helbing, Dennis
Fisher, and Nicholas Williams.
Mr. Koch has been involved in the Drum Corps International activity for several years. He
performed with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps and Santa Clara Vanguard. As a member at
SCV he contributed to three consecutive Fred Sanford Awards, Gold, Silver, and Bronze
medals, and served as section leader. Since aging out, he has served as a battery tech at Music
City Drum and Bugle Corps (2020-2022), Madison Scouts (2022), and The Crossmen (2025).
His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and the Percussive Arts
Society.
