Under his leadership, his ensembles have consistently earned Superior Ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluations, UIL Region Marching Evaluations, and have advanced as Area Finalists in the 6A and 5A classifications.
In addition to his career as a band director, Michael has served as a brass and visual instructor for several drum and bugle corps including the Crossmen, The Academy, Jersey Surf, Connecticut Hurricanes, and the Raiders. Prior to teaching, Michael was a member of the Bluecoats (2008-2010), which received the bronze medal at the 2010 Drum Corps International World Championships. He is also an alumnus of the Jersey Surf (2006-2007), which received the silver medal and the award for best brass performance at the 2007 Drum Corps International Division II World Championships.
Michael received a Master of Music degree in Euphonium Performance from The Hartt School, where he studied under James E. Jackson III and performed with the renowned Hartt Wind Ensemble under Glen Adsit. He was also the founding president of Hartt’s chapter of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, with honors, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he studied with Dr. Zach Collins and Dr. Gary Bird, and performed under Dr. Jack Stamp and Dr. Jason Worzbyt.
Michael is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, International Tuba and Euphonium Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He currently resides in Austin, Texas, where he performs with the Cedar Park Winds and enjoys exploring the city’s vibrant music, culture, and food.
He is thrilled to return to the Crossmen faculty, a full-circle moment as he was inspired to be a music educator by his high school teacher and drum corps mentor Steve Wands, a Crossmen soloist during the 1990 and 1992 seasons.
