John Wolff
Snare Instructor
John Wolff is a performer, educator, and composer currently based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
He is a senior pursuing a degree in percussion performance at East Texas A&M University
(formerly Texas A&M University-Commerce.) Throughout his time at East Texas, John has been
a part of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble I, Percussion Ensemble I, Panimation Steel Band,
and the PRIDE Marching Band. He has served as Percussion Association Vice President
(2023-2024) and currently serves as Percussion Association President (2024-2025). He has been
part of the Percussive Arts Society University Student Committee since 2023.
Under the tutelage of educators such as Dr. Brian Zator, Jeff Ausdemore, Lauren Teel, Sandi
Rennick, Dr. Tanner Leonardo, and Will Champion, John has performed at events like the Texas
Music Educators Association and Percussive Arts Society International Convention. He was
honored to be part of the A&M-Commerce Percussion Ensemble when they won the
International Percussion Ensemble Competition in 2023.
John has had experience marching with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2021 and 2022,
The Blue Stars in 2023, and the Blue Devils in 2024, serving as battery section leader for the
Crossmen in 2022 and The Blue Stars in 2023. He joins the Crossmen on staff for the first time
in 2025.
In addition to his performance career, John is an active educator. He has taught at high school
programs such as The Woodlands High School, Allen High School, Terrell High School,
Commerce High School, and Community High School. Currently, he serves as the varsity battery
instructor at Allen High School and is the percussion arranger for Terrell High School. He also
offers private lessons and frequently receives commissions to write percussion ensembles, solos,
and marching arrangements.
