Ian Calhoun
Low Brass Instructor
Ian Calhoun (he/him) is a freelance low brass musician, music educator, and music librarian in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He currently teaches tenor trombone, bass trombone, tuba, and euphonium within the Northwest Independent School District as well as his private studio. Ian has experience performing in wind bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and chamber groups all across the country, including the Dallas Brass Band, the only British-style brass band in the Metroplex. He also marched baritone with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016 and 2017 and was a brass instructor with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps in 2024. Ian received his bachelor’s degree in music performance and master's degree in music librarianship at the University of North Texas, where he performed in dozens of small and large ensembles, including the North Texas Wind Symphony, the U-Tubes Jazz Trombone Ensemble, and the GRAMMY-nominated One O'Clock Lab Band. He holds professional affiliations with the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Jazz Educators Association, Jazz Education Network, and Music Library Association. Ian currently resides in Denton, Texas, where he enjoys solving puzzles, taking pictures, reading, and practicing his juggling!
