CROSSMEN DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS FAQS

Here are a few frequently asked questions concerning the Crossmen DCI audition process. Simply click on a question and you’ll be directed to the answer at the bottom of this page.

WHERE DO PARTICIPANTS STAY DURING A CROSSMEN EXPERIENCE CAMP?

All members will be staying, sleeping, rehearsing, showering, and eating at the school selected for the audition. Members will sleep in the gymnasium of the school and shower in the school’s locker rooms. Meals are obtained from the Crossmen food truck. It will be a full drum corps experience!

We separate male/female camper sleeping areas. Most of the time, we are capable of establishing two completely separate gyms or sleeping areas, in all other cases, we clearly set a line of male to female sleeping areas. All locations are clearly labeled MALE or FEMALE.

Showers will be separated based off sex and age groups - under 18 and 18+. Please be sure to let Crossmen Administration know if you require other accommodations.

Before every camp, we require each camper to fill out an RSVP Form. This form lets us know you're coming, but also helps us understand what kind of dietary needs you need. Please be sure to be as specific as possible so that we can accommodate your needs!

CAN I AUDITION TO BE A DRUM MAJOR?

Crossmen and Contempo Leadership’s Drum Major & Leadership camp is held in January every year! All looking to gain more experience as a drum major and overall leader are welcome to attend.

SHOULD I BRING MY OWN EQUIPMENT OR INSTRUMENT?

Percussion
BATTERY - Although we would like to have all campers on a drum if possible, understand that there are usually more campers than drums. We will supply Crossmen's drums, but we encourage all campers to bring their own equipment if possible. Please bring a practice pad as well.
FRONT ENSEMBLE - No, the front ensemble will utilize the corps instruments during camps. We do ask that you  bring your own set of varying mallets.
Brass
Yes, you are encouraged to bring your own instrument and mouthpiece. Corps-owned brass instruments are not issued until the camps during the spring when contracts will be issued.
Color Guard
Flags will be provided to everyone. Some weapons will be provided to those who would like to audition for a spot, but feel free to bring your own, especially if you are driving to camp. Gloves are acceptable for spinning, but are not required.

Brass and Guard - Gloves will be sold at all experience camps. Brass - Berps will be sold at camps.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CAMP?

Please pack athletic-type clothing and shoes during your time at an experience camp. This will help your mobility during stretching exercises and visual portions of the experience camp. Please avoid wearing jeans or other clothing that may be restraining. If you are auditioning for a color guard position, please wear all black, comfortable clothing for dance and movement.

Brass must wear gloves if using a Crossmen owned instrument. They are sold for $3/pair at registration and throughout the camp day/weekend.

DO CROSSMEN PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO CAMP?

While you are responsible for your travel arrangements, Crossmen can provide transportation to and from the airport and bus station for full weekend camps. For Satellite/One-Day camps, Crossmen is unable to provide shuttles due to the small amount of volunteers needed for the day.

Campers MUST request a shuttle no later than a week prior to the camp. Please see the CAMP page for more info.
