Melanie Simon

Melanie marched with the Crossmen playing mellophone from 1986 (“not bad for a dead drum corps”) through 1991. After aging out she spent the next 3 years balancing a first real job, writing for Drum Corps World and following the corps as a fan and girlfriend to Peter Simon, a euphonium player with the corps from 1991 to 1994.

She and Peter have been consistent volunteers and donors throughout the years and are also active in the Alumni Association. Their son plays the tuba and marched with the Crossmen in 2024 and 2025. The three of them got to play Birdland together as part of the 50th anniversary corps in 2024.

Melanie’s main career has been in personal financial planning and holds the Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Financial Consultant designations. She has a BA in Music from the College of William & Mary.

In her spare time, she plays the tenor horn with the Cincinnati Brass Band and serves on their board. She has also served on several school-related boards in the past.

Melanie is excited to join the board to help the Crossmen continue to provide life-changing experiences to its future members like it has for her, her spouse, and their son.
