Rich Kim -  Assistant Caption Head/Program Consultant


A New Jersey native, Rich started his marching career in 1992 with the South Brunswick marching band, color guard, and winter guard. After graduating high school in 1999, he was their equipment writer and tech for 4 years while winning WGI medals as a performer with St Ann's and Blessed Sacrament IW guards.

He was the color guard director at King Philip High School from 2005-2010, where the guard earned the USSBA Group IV Open Best Colorguard title each year he was director and was a perennial WGI SO Finalist. He was also a choreographer and tech of the award-winning Bushwackers color guard from 2005-2009 and was caption head in his last year. For the past 18 years, he has designed shows, soundtracks, and consulted for many programs including Miamisburg HS (OH), Sacred Heart (MA), Fusion Core Drum Corps (NJ), 6 time IW WGI finalist Emanon World (NJ), and Somerville HS (NJ) - the WGI 2012 SA and 2015 SO Champion. He currently writes for Blessed Sacrament World (MA) and is the show designer for St Ann’s (MA), Fusion (NJ), and Washington HS (MO) winterguards, and is ecstatic to be with Crossmen for a third year.

Outside of guard, Rich is a practicing artist, ranging in media from painting, installation, and video. He received his BFA in Visual Arts from Rutgers Univ-Mason Gross, MSAE from MassArt, and MFA from MICA. He has published several articles on art education and regularly presents research on creativity and contemporary art at many conferences across the US. He is in his 14th year as a high school art teacher in Walpole, MA teaching ceramics and sculpture and has been the director of the school's dance company for the past 13 years.
