2013 Crossmen Protest Tour
Day 10, Sunday June 23rdWe rolled into our Bloomdale HS housing site in the wee hours of the morning. Everyone got their much needed rest. The members have their routine down. First the scaffolding crew survey's the field situation and sets up where necessary. The field liners are right with them laying down the perfect 100 yards for rehearsal. The balance of the corps is up running their mile and then stretching with John Leonard. The food crew is the first out of bed and they have breakfast prepared so that it is a seamless transition to meal time after PT. The Front Ensemble has unloaded the truck while the corps is doing PT and is able to join everyone for breakfast. After breakfast it is time for visual block. It has become routine for everyone and they have gotten more efficient the longer we are on the road together. The teamwork is a real thing of beauty to behold.
Show Day Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, OH
After our ensemble rehearsal and run through we start the EPL dance. The corps has really stepped up their efficiency in this area also. We were a little behind the curve in the first week but have polished our procedures and gotten to where we are ready to pull out of the school 5 to 10 minutes before scheduled departure every time. This means the trip to the show is not rushed nor the pre-show warm up ritual.
This our third show in a row and our performances improve with each attempt. Tonight is another gem. After loading the equipment, snack and a little free time we are ready to depart. We waita few minutes for the staff to be return from critique and for the three drum majors to return from the Drum Major retreat. Off to the next stop! Bellbrook HS in Bellbrook, Ohio is our next destination.
