Crossmen “Go Green” 2012 Show Announcement Coincides with Earth Day
“Journey with me to a true commitment to our environment. Journey with me to the serenity of leaving to our children a planet in equilibrium.” - Paul Tsongas Crossmen are thrilled to announce their 2012 production, FRAGILE. FRAGILE is an exploration of ecological issues that threaten our planet on a daily basis, and the ideal of hope for a rejuvenated mother earth. Music arrangements were designed by Chuck Naffier, Lee Beddis, and Andrew Markworth. The Crossmen are committed to paying tribute to bringing FRAGILE to life as we engage and entertain audiences across the country this season while participating in DCI’s 40 th Anniversary Summer Tour.
Music selections include:
“Earth Song” by Michael Jackson
“Wailers/PD7” Interweaving of Bobby McFerrin’s "Wailers" and Anoushka Shankar’s "PD7"
“Here Comes the Flood” Peter Gabriel
“Finding and Believing” Pat Metheny
"The music Ed Devlin and the design team have chosen is right on par with the style of the Crossmen, without being cliche." said Assistant Corps Director Joseph Banegas. "The musical, technical, visual, and physical demands have all been turned up from last year. Our goal this year is to challenge [the members] and help them grow as musicians, and this show is going to do just that! We have the largest amount of returning members since 2008 and are looking to make some noise!"
The Crossmen hope this year's production will do much more than entertain. As Crossmen Executive Director/Corps Director explains, “All of us can have a positive impact on the planet through the choices we make each day." Ed Devlin, Crossmen Program and Visual Coordinator, and his team of talented designers and arrangers are going to make that statement through the 2012 Crossmen Production, Fragile . The footprint we leave behind can be minimized through intelligent choices. Technological improvements, conservation and recycling are choices we make that can reduce the impact we can have each day. If each of us engages in these areas we can move the needle in a positive direction. Just look at fuel consumption improvements and green technology advancements that have been made in the last 5 years alone. Cars and trucks routinely getting over 30 miles per gallon while producing less pollution. We choose what vehicles we drive. Choose a hybrid or high mileage vehicle and we make a difference. Touring is a very fuel and environmentally intensive undertaking. Crossmen are embarking on a recycling program for the plastic, steel and cardboard we produce while on tour in order to move the needle. Our fleet uses the latest technology of diesel equipment. Our average fuel consumption is reduced by the greater efficiency and reduced air pollutants exhibited by the latest generation of truck and motor coach engines. Our Yamaha generators are quieter and more fuel efficient than the last generation of power equipment.” Crossmen are going to reduce our carbon footprint in 2012 while entertaining the country with our hard driving Crossmen groove. How about you?
