Kevin Hanrahan

Kevin Hanrahan is beginning his first season with the Crossmen organization, serving as the bass drum technician for the summer of 2014. Originally from Chicago, Kevin currently serves as the Graduate Teaching Assistant of the percussion studio at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he will be completing his Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance upon Spring 2014. He obtained his Bachelor of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago in Spring 2012. While living in Chicago, he served as a staff member of the WGI ensemble, Green Thunder Percussion, sponsored by the Cavalier D&B Corps in the winters of 2011 and 2012. Kevin has also taught music at several high schools in the area as a marching battery, front ensemble, concert/orchestral, and private educator, including Lyons Township HS, Maine West HS, and BOA semi-finalist Lake Park HS, just to name a few. He has also taught music at the middle school, elementary school, and special education level. 

Kevin has been actively involved with the marching arts, marching five seasons of both DCI and WGI. He has been a member of Pioneer (2007), Phantom Regiment (2008, 09, 10), the Santa Clara Vanguard (2011), Americanos Indoor (2006), Pioneer Indoor (2007, 08, 09), and NorthCoast Academy (2010). He has also had the privilege of performing at professional conferences across the country, such as the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), American Bandmasters Association (ABA), as well as multiple times at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) and the Midwest Clinic. Currently, Kevin performs with the Univ. of TN Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra, where he holds the title of principal percussionist and timpanist. 

Some of Kevin’s accolades and accomplishments include two-time Drum Corps International Fred Sanford High Percussion Recipient (2008, 2010), two-time Winter Guard International World Champion (2007, 2008), Drum Corps International World Champion (2008), and was announced the winner of the University of Tennessee’s School of Music Concerto Competition in Spring of 2013. Developing professionally, Kevin is a member of multiple professional affiliations including Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA), Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA), the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), formerly known as the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). 

  Kevin has had the privilege of studying with several fantastic teachers and professors that include Kevin Lepper, Bret Kuhn, Dr. Andrew Bliss, Paul Rennick, Tyler Orbison, Stuart Spoon, Brian “Chavez” Lowe, Huei Pan, Joe Shuker, Ellis Hampton, Mike Chiodo, and Frank Manna, just to name a few.
