January Rehearsal Camp Wrap-up

Crossmen wrapped up another great rehearsal camp this past weekend at James Madison High School in San Antonio. Despite some less than ideal winter weather conditions to kick off the weekend on Friday, the temperatures rose throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday with gorgeous 70-degree weather.

The weekend included a visit from Brass Arranger Chuck Naffier as well as design consultant and resident rock-star Al Chez. In a letter addressed to the members after the camp, Chuck wrote:

“The Crossmen January Camp gave us an opportunity to hear and evaluate so many things. The new staff members have hit the ground running, and it is great to see the work ethic being instilled by Brass Caption Head Anthony Cruddas and his team!

As with every year, there are always new, eager faces waiting for their chance to shine. Some nerves, some growing experiences, and a lot of accomplishments! Playing through one half of the show with the full music ensemble on Sunday afternoon, and watching the visceral reactions of both the members and the gathered audience tells us we're on the right path with our programming choices this year.

In this 40th anniversary year, the trick is to balance the tried-and-true with the fresh-and-new. We feel like we have got something special happening in this regard, and are looking forward to unleashing the Crossmen on the drum corps world this summer!

Lots of work to do, but it's the satisfying kind of work that is already connecting emotionally in a way that will make this a memorable year. I am really enjoying writing with Andrew Markworth, and look forward to what we can create together this season!”

So far this season, Crossmen have auditioned close to 575 potential brass, percussion, and color guard members since the first eXperience camp in November. The months are moving fast, and with "move-ins" just four months away, the corps is excitedly preparing for the summer. This is a season you do not want to miss!
