Crossmen January Camp Review Posted by: Jarrett Lipman Date: 1/24/2008
Over the weekend of January 18th-20th, current and prospective members of the 2008 Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps returned to their home at Ronald Reagan High School in Northern San Antonio to continue rehearsals and preparations for the upcoming season. Through the course of the camp, participants worked on technique, movement, and a variety of literature from the Corps’ standard repertoire. By the end of the weekend, the corps had worked through Russian, Water is Wide, God Bless America, Grits Ain’t Groceries, and music from their 2008 Production PLANET X.
As a special treat for the corps, the camp marked the return of Gary Cuzzocrea, an alumni and seven-year visual staff member (1997-2003), to the Crossmen Administration Team. Gary returns in a consulting capacity and will work to educate the members on corps history and traditions, all the while working to develop the identity and image of the current Crossmen. Gary kicked off his first weekend with the corps by spending time meeting with veteran members, and providing all weekend participants with a bit of insight into exactly what it means to be a member of this organization.
With over 120 in attendance at the camp, the weekend was truly a great start to the New Year, however; the Crossmen are still seeking new auditionees to fill some key positions for 2008. Think you might be interested in spending your summer marching with the Crossmen? Read on to learn how you can still secure a spot in the corps!
If you are a talented brass player or percussionist, particularly in the concentration of Trumpet or Tenor Drums, we would love to have you audition for the Crossmen. You can either attend our next camp on February 22nd-24th at Reagan High School OR you can send e-mail Jarrett@crossmen.org to learn more about how to submit an audition tape!
To all attending our February Camp: Don’t forget to RSVP, check the Member’s Section of the website for updates, and get ready to step-it-up a notch as we move closer to the Summer of 2008.
