Evan Rogovin - Bio
Mr. Evan Rogovin is in his second year as Director of Bands at the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in Palm Beach County. Prior to taking the position at DSOA he was Director of Bands at Santaluces Community High School for sixteen years. Under his direction, Santaluces bands consistently earned Superior Ratings at the District and State Level and his groups have performed throughout the Eastern Seaboard with amazing success. The Santaluces Marching Chiefs were FMBC Class 3A Runners-up in 2002; FMBC Class 4A State Champions in 2005, 2006 & 2009, and FMBC Class 4A State Runners-up in 2007 & 2008. The Santaluces Winter Color Guard were the 2003 WGI Scholastic A World Champions and have been Scholastic Open Finalists at World Championships 5 of the past 7 seasons, and SWFGA Circuit Champions 6 of the past 8 seasons. In just its first year in 2010, the Santaluces Marching Winter Percussion was WGI Boca Regional Champions and 2010 SFWGA Circuit Champions. The Santaluces Wind Ensemble has received Superior Ratings 14 of the past 16 years at District MPA and have performed at State MPA four times and received no ratings lower than Excellent. The Santaluces Jazz Ensemble has received a Superior Rating at Districts in 14 of the past 16 years and has received Superior Ratings at State MPA every year entered.
In 2003, Mr. Rogovin was awarded the William T. Dwyer Award for Excellence in Senior High Education presented by the Economic Council of Palm Beach County and the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County. He was also a finalist in 2002 for this prestigious award. Mr. Rogovin is actively sought after as an adjudicator and clinician around the state of Florida and beyond and is most active as a judge for the esteemed Indiana State School Music Association.
Evan Rogovin has also been very active with Drum Corps International. Mr. Rogovin began his DCI career marching with the Florida Wave Drum & Bugle Corps from 1984 through 1986. Florida Wave was the DCI Class A World Champion in 1984. After attending university studies and obtaining the job at Santaluces High School, Mr. Rogovin returned to the drum corps activity, teaching The Spirit of Atlanta in 1997 and 1998. After serving as brass caption head for the Tarheel Sun in 1999, Evan joined the staff of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 2000 through 2003. Mr. Rogovin was assistant brass caption head and ultimately rehearsed the Music Ensemble in 2002 and 2003. After leaving the Crossmen, he has been a consultant for a handful of drum corps, most notably The Troopers and The Boston Crusaders and most recently Teal Sound.
Mr. Rogovin received his Bachelor’s of Music Education Degree from the University of Florida in 1991 where he was involved with the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Brass Choir, Basketball Pep Band and the Fightin’ Gator Marching Band. In 1985 he was named Gator Band Rookie of the Year. In 1991, he traveled to Denton, Texas and studied Musicology at the University of North Texas, serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for two and a half years. He is a member of the Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia National Honorary Music Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity.
Evan is very pleased to be joining Crossmen caption head, Jason Buckingham's brass staff and glad to be back with the Crossmen.
