Crossmen Drum Corps Member Assistance Program
“The number one thing I learned from marching Crossmen is how to push past mental and physical barriers and advance to ‘the next level.’ I have developed an unbelievable work ethic, improved my social skills, and gained a completely new outlook on life.”
-Matt Penland, Tenor Drums 2006-07

Who are the Crossmen?
Formed in 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps recently re-located to its new home in San Antonio, Texas. Through its existence, the corps has grown to become a perennial Drum Corps International (DCI) World Champion Finalist, reaching the DCI Finals 22 times in the corps' brief 33-year history.
The Crossmen has served thousands of students throughout its history - providing not only music education, but also life-lessons for their alumni to carry with them as they leave the world of drum corps competition for a future in music performance, music education, or other career paths. The Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps is a program offering of Crossmen Productions, Inc., a non-profit musical youth organization assisting young people on the path to becoming wonderful human beings through their participation in the arts.
What is Drum Corps?
While it would appear that a drum and bugle corps (or "drum corps") might be easily defined, it is much more than drums and bugles. The modern drum corps is comprised of 150 performers from around the world with ages ranging from 14-22, who excel in one of three demands: brass, percussion, or color guard.
The Crossmen spend the months of May through August preparing for and competing in the Drum Corps International (DCI) Summer Music Games, which is considered “Marching Music’s Major League.” In a production that combines the music, theatrics, and pageantry of your high school and college marching bands, with the talent and innovation of productions such as BLAST! And Cirque de Soleil, a Drum Corps show is unique in its ability to appeal to an incredibly broad fan base. Competitions and performances range from the home town parade, to the small stadium event, to competitions in large venues including the Rose Bowl, Giants Stadium, and our World Championships held at the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
What is the cost to the participant?
Each year, it costs over one million dollars for each Drum Corps in DCI to travel down the road. Our members are required to pay tuition and members fees that cover the costs of instruction, food, housing, transportation, equipment, and uniforms. With all of these factors included, the total cost for each performer is approximately $2,800 for the summer.
Of course, this price tag is not insignificant but the experience afforded to each member is invaluable. Your contribution will ensure that every individual’s membership remains viable and that each one can continue his or her affiliation with the Crossmen.
The Crossmen will travel over 15,000 miles this summer entertaining hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the nation, while working to positively impact the lives of its members in a way unlike any other organization.
Here's how YOU can help! There are two ways to assist members with their required financial obligations: You can make a donation to the Crossmen to keep the membership costs low, or you can contribute directly to the cost of an individual member’s tuition.
