2009 Crossmen Tour ProductionForbiddeN
As "ForbiddeN", the 2009 Crossmen Tour production takes shape, we decided to interview our composer / arranger Aaron Guidry to get some insight into the construction of the music book.
Crossmen Director Mark Chambers recently caught up with Aaron Guidry in Las Vegas just after his 3000 th performance with Cirque du Soleil’s Mystère .
Five Questions with Crossmen Music Designer Aaron Guidry Five Questions with Crossmen Music MC: Can you fill us in on the source material that is being used for the Crossmen’s 2009 show?
AG: I was excited to have Samuel Barber’s “Medea’s Dance of Vengeance” suggested by you (Mark), as I performed the piece at least 500 times with Blast! but never had the opportunity to arrange it until now. I also wanted a strong lyrical pull woven into the show, so we went with Evanescence’s “My Immortal.”
MC: How has the 2009 concept “Forbidden” driven your musical arrangement?
AG: To be brief, sometimes love bites.
MC: What was your last iTunes purchase?
AG: Liz Pappademas: “Loma Prieta.” I’m such a sucker for a girl and a piano.
MC: Can you give us any hints as to your spin on the Crossmen music?
AG: I can do better than that! I’ve created a brief excerpted audio file of the original source material meshed with selections from my MIDI arrangement. This “Sneak Preview” doesn’t follow the pacing of the show per se, but, rather, gives the listener a fly-on-the-wall glimpse into my interpretation of 2009’s concept as related to the Barber and Evanescence material.
MC: Ginger or Mary Ann?
AG: Who says I can’t have both? This is Vegas, you know?
