Toll Brothers Showcase in the Square
Father's Day in the Square has turned into a special evening for the Crossmen. Many members of the corps get to see their family members one last time before we exit our home state. The Event Management Team of John & Rhonda Schock and Mike & Jean Lyman have done a remarkable job growing support for the 2nd annual Toll Brother's Showcase in the Square. The weather did not cooperate at first as we had a few raindrops at EPL (eat, pack and load) that stayed with us until we pulled into the square's parking lot. Things cleared pretty quickly but we will never know how many folks decided to not attend due to the weather. By the 7:00 start the crowd really started to multiply. John estimates that we had a few hundred more spectators than the inaugural showcase event. The souvie team experienced 20% growth in merchandise sales. We are really happy with the growth and can only imagine what next year will have in store for us. The Showcase Team won't be satisfied until we pack the square to the gills. The show included the Crossmen Small Brass Ensemble performing the National Anthem, Vigilante's V Krewe followed with some exciting jazz and rock, DCI's Open Class representative from Dallas, Forte performed segments of their 2012 program. The Crossmen portion of the show had a clinic feel in the beginning with demonstrations by the colorguard, front ensemble, battery and brass. The Crossmen 2012 production, "Fragile", highlighted the evening. After the 50/50 drawing the Corps arced up to play the corps song, Russian Christmas Music". The Crossmen alumni in attendance were thrilled by the re-emergence of drum parts for the corps staple. It had been lacking percussion pars since 2008.
We spent some time visiting in the parking during snack then made our way to Texarkana for a couple of rehearsal days.
