This past weekend the full drum corps met for their final rehearsal camp of the 2015 season at James Madison High School in San Antonio, TX. The productive camp saw the return of the Crossmen Color Guard, as they hosted their final auditions. During the Spring, color guard members are dismissed from camps to fulfill their positions in various winter guards throughout the United States, their dedication to their craft during the WGI season was apparent during auditions as they lined up for rehearsal that stretched the length of two gyms.
Saturday night the corps gathered for a meeting to cover a few administrative things before tour started, and to listen to the design staff announce and explain their 2015 production. The room erupted after music arranger revealed the title and production logo. The Crossmen's 2015 production will be titled Above & Beyond. Two quotes what were attached to the show announcement best summed up the concept that music arranger, Andrew Markworth, and drill writer, Mike Hardiek, explained to the corps that night.
"Those who do most, dream most" - Stephen Butler Lealock
"For once you have tasted flight, you will walk the Earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return" - Leonardo da Vinci
After our show release Eric Whitacre, the composer of Fly to Parade, took to Twitter to share his excitement.
The @Crossmen Drum Corps are performing an arrangement of Fly to Paradise for their show this year. So, so cool.
