2013 Crossmen Protest Tour

Day 52, Saturday, August 3nd
Allentown Regional Day- 2013 Crossmen Hall of Fame Induction
Housing- West Essex Regional HS, North Caldwell, NJ

We got in some great work before loading up  and making the 2 hour trip to the J. Birney Crumm Stadium in Allentown, PA. Allentown is the most historic site on the East Coast for drum corps. For close to 40 years there has been a large drum corps event in this town. Crossmen have participated in many of them over the years. The regional brings many of the Crossmen alumni together in the park across from the stadium. The park is the location of the annual induction ceremony for the Crossmen Hall of Fame conducted by the Crossmen Alumni Association. We have estimated that there have been over 300 people at the gathering and they are the who's who of DCI. Crossmen have a  legacy of people that extend throughout DCI and its member corps. They are designers, directors, caption heads and instructors. The alumni gathering also brings many of the people that have been around since the merger of the 507 Hornets and Keystone Regiment in late 1974. Founding Director Robby Robinson and his family are still involved with various roles with the alumni. Today three very deserving people were inducted into the Crossmen Hall of Fame they are Ray Eyler, Bob Morrison and Denny White. All three gentlemen were present to accept their award. The corps was lined around the outer perimeter in order to witness the presentations. After the ceremony we sang happy birthday to Michele Williams. Michele has been a godsend to us since the announcement of the move to Texas going on 7 years ago. We don't know what we would do without her organizational talent and graphic design expertise. It was fun to call her into the center of the circle with no idea of what we were up to. Her sister Karen brought her a birthday cake and the singing began! After the birthday wishes all of the alumni were invited to pose for photos with the section of the corps that they were involved in. This is always a special time and the current members make a connection with the Crossmen past that they aren't likely to forget. Then we made our way to the various warm up zones after the get together.

It is now time to go to the gate. We no sooner entered the stadium that the applause and shouts of encouragement ring out from the stands. The alums were out in force with Protest signs of their own. The corps laid down a beauty of a performance for them in reply. The audience responded with two standing ovations once again. One O after the peace sign and one at the end!

We load up and head to Pittsburgh knowing that we are loved. One more regular show to go before championships.
