2013 Crossmen Protest Tour

Day 46, Sunday, July 28th
Regional Show Day- Atlanta, GA
Housing- Adairsville HS, Adairsville GA

Our Georgia "Outdoor Slumber Party" of 2013
I wouldn't say that this morning was the best way for us to be prepared for a big regional. When we arrived at our housing site we still hadn't been able to communicate with our contact at Adairsville HS. Even though we had spoken on the phone and gone through the details a couple of days ago and our DCI contact, Jeff Cox had spoken with the contact earlier in the week to confirm, there was no answer on our attempt one hour out and no way to get into the school as Rico called every 5 minutes. Joe and Rico called the local police after giving up on the contact and finally after an hour we were able to get the wheels of progress moving. The principal was contacted by the police and from there made contact with our admin team. In the meantime we desperately wanted floor time for our Crossmen. We emptied the buses and the members and volunteers set up in the courtyard at the back of the school. The staff stayed on the bus.To their credit there were no complaints from anyone. A few just replied, "That's drum corps." Just making things happen was the attitude. For the admin team we take these things personal. The member experience is forefront of our minds and this is not the way we want things to go. We still don't know what happened exactly but the Adairsville colorguard instructor came to our rescue and opened up the school. After breakfast things were back to normal. This is our fourth season staying at this beautiful campus and the conditions outside were perfect for our summer "campout". We were blessed with dry cool conditions this morning. That hasn't been the norm in the past. It has been hot and muggy this time of the year in Adairsville during our past stays. The conditions were the silver lining of this little adventure. Everyone took it in stride and we are very grateful for that.

Joe took me to the stadium for a directors meeting at 1 pm. I drove the two hours in order to give him a chance to get a little sleep as he had been up most of the night taking care of the miscue. The two hour drive was pleasant this Sunday morning. joe made the drive back to Adairsville in order to lead the convoy after EPL.

The DCI meeting covered the logistics for Allentown and Championships. Hard to grasp that we only have 13 days left on our adventure together. It is melting away before our very eyes.

Our performance was solid but not our best. The 15,000 plus in the dome loved it. We have a lot of room to grow and we are making great strides. We are now in the stretch run. The trail is going to lead us back to our roots in Pennsylvania but first we head to Rock Hill, SC for a short rehearsal, laundry and some deserved free time.

Another shot of our Georgia "Camping Trip". The great outdoors under the stars.
