2013 Crossmen Protest Tour

Day 37, Friday, July 19th
Rehearsal Day- San Antonio
Housing-
Canyon HS, New Braunfels,TX

Welcome Home Bones!
Today is a great day for the Crossmen. Crossmen parents, alumni and friends have gathered and planned a special day for their favorite drum corps members. Welcome signs were posted, menus planned, goodie bags and treats prepared and "Protest" signs made for the special "Welcome Home" dinner.

Maureen and I spent some time at home making more donor signs for the equipment truck and the motorcoaches as more folks donated to the Club Unity and "Got on the Bus". Laundry for me was another priority and Maureen made sure I was well equipped with fresh clothes to finish the stretch run of the 2013 tour.

It has been nice to have Amy home to share part of our Crossmen adventure before she returns her studies in Oxford, OH. She has an adventure of her own to prepare for as she is going to Vienna, Austria with her oboe professor from Miami University to perform with the symphony and in a music festival in Austria at Haydn Hall and traveling to St. Steven's Cathedral for a faculty chamber recital. This has to be an opportunity of a lifetime for any masters student. We are very proud of her.

When Maureen and I arrived at the Crossmen housing site at Canyon HS we saw all of the preparations that were made for the corps. You can't help but feel the emotion and pride our supporters have for this fine group of young people. After rehearsal everyone lined the sidewalk to the room the corps was using as sleeping quarters with signs and cheers of approval for their Crossmen as they returned from rehearsal for dinner. It was a surprise for the corps staged by the parents and the looks on the  member's faces was priceless. It made the heat of the day a little more tolerable and the work more rewarding. We watched a video of the Broken Arrow show in the air conditioning and the corps enjoyed the chance to cool off and relax before dinner and dig into their goodie bags. Next on the agenda was dinner. The meal was spectacular! The lasagna and salad were piled high on all of the plates. Cookie salad was desert along with many other treats and sweet tea. The food truck was decorated artistically by the organizing committee with red and black crepe paper. They went all out for this one!

We had a crowd for ensemble rehearsal. The expectations are high for tomorrows home show regional in the dome. Lights out for now Crossmen. Rest up!
