2013 Crossmen Protest Tour
Day 36, Thursday, July 18th
Show Day- CH Collins Athletic Center, Denton, TX
Housing- Denton, HS
These stands kept filling in until it was standing room only on the front home side in Denton. They were an amazing audience! The convoy made the 300 mile trek down IH44 and IH35 from Broken Arrow according to plan. The facilities at our housing in Denton were pretty incredible in spite of all of the construction going on. The campus is huge and growing larger by the looks of all of the building.
You could feel the excitement from the members as the fact that they were close to home sank in. Crossmen are back in the Lone Star State! Maureen and Amy came over from Grapevine around lunch time. They spent the night at our son Erik's apartment after driving up Wednesday afternoon from San Antonio. They took me to a local burger spot for lunch. It was nice to be able to spend some time visiting and eating a meal sitting down in a chair instead of my drum corps habit of eating standing up most meals.
Rehearsal went as scripted and the load out of Denton HS in spite of the spread out campus was accomplished with a few minutes to spare.Crossmen, 2013 edition, are getting really good at this. Maureen, Amy and I joined the convoy behind the Command Center in our Suburban. It was an easy trip to the stadium.
The Denton Show is a real popular show with the corps because of the full stadium of excited Drum Corps fans that show up each year. This year would not disappoint. The huge stadium was packed to the endzones. There were 300 or so folks relegated to sitting on the visitors side of the stadium. The mood was on fire with happy drum corps fans. Dan Potter did his usual crowd inspiring announcement for Crossmen and the stands erupted. The corps paid them back with the best performance of the summer!
After loading up the Rhino, Maureen, Amy and I drove back to San Antonio. We would arrive at home at 2 am. A night's sleep on our own beds was a welcome site. Thirty 36 days since we saw it last.
Standing Room Only on the home side in Denton had these few hundred folks sitting on the visitors side
