2013 Crossmen Protest Tour
Day 16 - Saturday, June 29thTonight we made one of our longer treks of the season. Logging @325 miles we were able to pick up 30 minutes and arrive a little early for some bonus floor time for members and staff. Our housing site at Troy HS is very familiar with drum corps. The Madison Scouts spent the last seven days of their spring training here. Our contact was very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We discovered the secret to the Scouts recent success in Troy. They have been fueled by Gus's Drive In across the street from the school. Gus serves some of the best burgers and shakes anyone could ever have. Scouts Executive Director, Chris Komnick, verified via text message to me that we had in fact uncovered a Madison Scout secret. We definitely look forward to a return to East Troy some day soon in order to visit Gus's.
Show Day- Breitenbach Stadium, Middleton, WI
Housing- East Troy, HS
Today was another cool morning and day. The morning temperature was 55 and the afternoon high was 70. This was easy to handle by all. A good part of the the day everyone was wearing their Crossmen hoodies in order to keep warm.
After ensemble we loaded up and headed to the Breitenbach Stadium in Middleton. The performance by the corps was another in a long line of improved performances. We had an electronics issue that kept one of the synths offline that added a little uneasiness in the beginning of the pre-show and left a little vacuum but overall did not seem to hurt the score. It had been a tight grouping between Troopers, Blue Stars and Crossmen in all of these head to head competitions. It has been fun and exciting for us and I am sure for the fans paying attention to the scores night after night. The three corps were separated by one tenth of a point per position tonight. With Crossmen on top of the stack on this night. It seems that in the third year of the new DCI judging system the excitement of uncertainty each night has materialized. This is great for the activity.
The Crossmen convoy headed out of town after the return of the staff from retreat. We are on our way to Minnesota!
Things are flying in Protest!
