2013 Crossmen Protest Tour
Day 13, Wednesday June 26th
Show Day- Reitz Bowl, Evansville, IN
Housing- Harrison HS, Evansville
The crowd at Evansville returned to the stands in force after a 90 minute rain delay. These are DCI Fans! The day started just like the previous week with PT followed by breakfast and rehearsal. We loaded out and headed to the show feeling pretty good about our progress. Many thanks to our friends at Harrison HS for hosting Crossmen.
The Evansville Show has a history of being a very vocal and supportive crowd. There has been a period where the show has not happened for one reason or another so tonight's crowd was ready to get loud and the stands were pretty full. We started warm ups and the sky turned on us with a threatening lightning show and wind. Every one in the stands was told to find cover in the school and the corps that were close went to the field house. Any corps at the remote bus parking and warm up areas went to the buses for safety. Our pit covered all of the electronics and front ensemble gear. They then made their way to the field house. The storm seemed like it was going to dump a huge amount of rain but thankfully it was relatively light and intermittent. The directors were called to a meeting in order to weigh in on the situation with the DCI officials and the show promoter. No one wanted to disappoint the huge and boisterous crowd. The lightning seemed to hover too close for comfort in order to go on. We waited to make a call with everyone looking at the radar on their phones. The final answer was that we would see clearing of both the rain and the lightning by 9:45. Thankfully we were able to resume the schedule and get the show in. The crowd let out a huge roar when the good news was announced. This was a fun one to perform in front of as they were excited to see drum corps in this wonderful venue again.
We revisited the departure schedule and schedule for the next day and found our way to our next stop satisfied that we left some drum corps fans excited by the 2013 season.
