2013 Crossmen Protest Tour
Day 9, Saturday June 22stThis is a special day for all rookie Crossmen. After physical training and breakfast we met with the corps over near the equipment truck. Today the Crossmen that marched their first show receive their Cross necklace. This is the symbol that they are now part of the Crossmen fabric. They are officially Crossmen because they marched a DCI show in the Crossmen uniform. They are told the meaning of the four tabs of the cross and the significance of being a member in a long line of Crossmen that came before them. They are reminded that 38 years of Crossmen continue to support them in their efforts. The 39th edition of the corps has a lot of potential. We look forward to having them live up to that potential in the weeks to come. The members look so happy this morning sporting their crosses with the red side out. Thanks to Joe Banegas for getting the crosses fabricated and to the administrative team and Caitlyn Hall for tying the cords for the necklaces so that they were ready to distribute this morning.
Show Day Merriville Music Days, Merriville, IN
After our two blocks today we head to the Merriville Show. We are hosted by our DCI Brothers, the Madison Scouts as they serve as the show promoter for Merriville along with the Merriville HS Band. It was a nice event in a great stadium. It was good to see and visit with Madison Scouts Executive Director, Chris Komnick in the stadium. Chris and I serve together on the DCI Finance Committee and on the DCI Board of Directors. We enjoy sharing ideas on how to make a drum corps and DCI work. We know that we can call on each other for help if needed. It is nice to have the support of our fellow directors. We are all in this together. The competition is confined between the sidelines and the goal posts. The rest is just relying on each other as members of the Drum Corps fraternity. We can never forget it!
Crossmen veteran Drum Major Jordan Schock places the cross necklaces around new Crossmen members Caitlyn Hall and JaRod Hall. Welcome to the family! Crossmen "Protesting" in Merriville, Indiana!
