Fragile Tour Blog - 2012 Crossmen presented by Gotta Go Trailways.com
The seven hour drive to Pittsburgh was made up of mostly Pennsylvania turnpike. It went pretty smoothly. We pulled into the housing site around 6am and get situated. Wake up won't be until 9:30. Right about the time it is to wake up the rain starts. It is steady and has bursts of a downpour now and then. Rehearsal will be indoors for most of the day. We get to have a little ensemble time before loading up and heading to the stadium. Overall this was a day of rest for the corps. It probably won't hurt them this once.
The rains start as we arrive at the stadium. The forcast is not looking too good. 50% or more chance of rain till midnight. It does stop though. We don't even lose an hour. The crowd is a little light on attendance but still a good crowd. The walk up probably suffered due to the earlier wet conditions. Crossmen throw down another doozy! Good energy and solid performance. We arrange to have our annual mass brass with Spirit of Atlanta after their performance. It delayed our departure by 45 minutes but was a priceless exchange of music. Both lines played multiple tunes for each other. Sitting in the center you could feel the raw power in both. Prior to everyone playing, Spirit's Executive Director, Todd Snead, related the stories that spawned the tradition that extends to events that happened in the seventies.
The Spirit Crossmen connection is alive and well. I can't think of a better way to end the regular season. On to our housing site in Trafalgar, IN. It will be a long ride but it will also be the last of the summer. Hard to believe!
