Fragile Tour Blog-2012 Crossmen presented by Gotta Go

Bristol Show Day is tonight! Housing at the show site and having the convoy sit still for more than 18 hours brings multitudes of benefits to all of the 200 Crossmen members, staff, admin and volunteers. We have been on quite a tear travel wise for the first two weeks. San Antonio, Dallas, Texarkana, Martin and Sevierville,TN, Orlando, Fort Mill, SC, Fort Edward, NY etc...etc...etc..all told approximately 5,000 miles via the RV odometer. Recharging the batteries of everyone involved brings a renewed spirit to the corps. Our success to date is an added bonus to everyone's psyche. This journey is much more pleasant when your hard work is rewarded.

Tonight's show was another good solid performance by the Xmen. The Bristol crowd was on their feet in appreciation. Announcer, Paul Cain, brought a special feel as he always does when he is on the microphone. This year represents his 24th tour of duty at Bristol. We have many Crossmen friends and family in the audience. A special treat is to see our friend Maddie. Maddie is one of our strongest yet youngest supporters. Each year since 2006 Maddie has collected change and donated it to Crossmen for our fuel fund. She started this as a six year old while living in Cheasapeake, VA. Even after her family relocated to Maine, she has kept the promise of raising money for the Crossmen. Each summer when Maddie and her mom visit the corps she brings the results of her efforts. Maddie and the donation have grown each and every year. It has become a tradition to take and post a photograph with Maddie and me. When we started she was waist high. I think that next year she will pass me in height. Maddie has also taken up the trumpet. Her goal is to march Crossmen some year. I think that her dream will come true one day if she continues to show the determination she does with her fund raising efforts. This year's total is over $130.00. Pretty amazing that a 12 year old can make this happen. Maddie gives us the confidence to know that what we are doing is worthwhile. Maddie, thank you from all of the Crossmen! You are a special young lady. If we could have more folks making the same efforts on our behalf we would never have a worry.
