Fragile Tour Blog-2012 Crossmen presented by Gotta Go Trailways.com- Day 15, June 30th, 2012

2012 Crossmen presented by Gotta Go Trailways.com

We were up at 8:00 for breakfast and a quick EPL and out of the housing lot by 9:30 am. The convoy minus the Catering Truck arrived at the Hollis School that served as the step off for the Braintree Parade route. The scheduled start time is 11:45 am. Crossmen enter the parade route at 12:15 pm. The crowd is very vocal giving the corps a warm reception for "March America" along the 2 mile estimated route. We rendezvous with the Gotta Go Trailways Charter coaches and the balance of the convoy at 2. Linda, Petey and the volunteer food crew have prepared wraps for the corps and hand them out with chips and cookies after the corps loads the gear and changes out of uniform. We are a fine tuned machine as things go as predicted.

Next stop Lynn show on this unusual day. We load up and make the hour trip to Manning Field in Lynn, MA. The corps has some visual time in the stadium, breaks for dinner at 6:30pm. At 7:30pm we start an extended warm up as our gate time is 9:22 pm. We step off at 9:37 pm. The crowd greats the corps under the lights with a huge round of applause. They react throughout the show and are on their feet at the conclusion of the performance. Little did we see from field level but their were two small train wrecks on the field involving 5 or six in the horn line. Erik told me that he saw them recover quickly and continue on. Later after finding our way back to the truck I see one of the casualties in Joe's hand. He was holding what used to be a functional trumpet. This one is going to take some work! One of the trumpets has a sore wrist but after examination by a local doc, looks to be badly bruised. It will mean a trip to the medical center tomorrow just for peace of mind and an x-ray. The entire corps is upbeat after the scores are announced. They weren't sure what the two crashes would mean to the results. The quick recovery must have been to our favor. We have our best night so far as it relates to numbers. We are on our way to Guilford, CT to get some rest and prepare for the New Haven show.
