2012 Tour Departure Day
Tour departure day is always jammed with logistic details. We start the day with our last rehearsal block of Spring Training followed by packing our Gotta Go Trailways Charter Coaches, loading all of the trucks and cleaning our temporary home at Blossom. We can't thank our friends at the North East ISD Athletic Department enough for their hospitality. Mr. Jerry Comalander, Mr. Jimmy Burkholder, Ms.Terry Martinez, Mr. Brigido Hernandez and all of the office, custodial and support staff at the state of the art complex contributed to another successful Crossmen training camp. Our relationship with the folks at Blossom is one we always cherish. Year six had its challenges with the construction in the gym but everyone made the best of it and it seemed normal. All of the folks at Blossom contributed to a successful stay and to a great MMX event on Friday night. Thank you!
After all of the scurrying around loading, transporting unneeded items back to the warehouse and situating the motor coaches we were ready to roll by 3 pm. The traditional convoy departure call over the radio, "Giddy up go Crossmen" was heard loud and clear. Warren took up the mantle and filled in for Newell in that department. It is an impressive site to see the entire nine vehicle convoy lined up like ducklings heading up Interstate 35. So it begins!
After a 90 minute stop at the Wal-mart Super Center in New Braunfels to re-supply their snacks and toiletries the Crossmen shoot up the road 50 miles to downtown Austin. The steps of the State Capital Building has become a perennial first stop for the Crossmen for the last six seasons. The Austin Stars do a great job of providing a spectacular venue. The well lit historic Capital building is a great stage for what we do musically. The crowd gave the Crossmen a standing ovation send off!
The ride to Dawson Middle School in Southlake was smooth and easy. Not a bad start to our 2012 adventure. Crossmen Tour 38 is underway!
