Crossmen Tour 37 "renewal" Day 39-Ashville HS - Ashville, AL Rehearsal Day
Wednesday, July 27th 2011- Crossmen Tour 37 "renewal" Day 39-Ashvlille HS - Ashville, AL- Rehearsal Day
The Ashville HS provides familiar surroundings for the Crossmen. It is the site of last year's Crossmen housing site for the Gadsden DCI event. Our host band director, Woody Francis, is an amazing guy. We feel very welcome here and it is very much due to Woody and his Alabama hospitality. Last summer we had an incident that required us to leave a Louisiana housing site 10 hours earlier than scheduled and Woody welcomed us with open arms. We will never forget his generosity.
This week is a spot on the tour calendar that we reserved for putting in any "last" or "probably last" of the season changes for music, drill and visual prior to the Atlanta Regional. With three plus rehearsal days this week we are sure to make that happen. Ed Devlin and Jaime have game planned with the captions on the fixes and the staff is making sure that they are implemented and comfortable for the Crossmen prior to the Gadsden Show. These guys work so well together. It is something that was lacking to a great degree last summer. The egos get checked at the door. The conversations are always about how to improve. No one gets married to their ideas and the ideas flow freely because of it. That is the way it is suposed to work. In my former career as CEO of VP Racing Fuels that is how it worked. We gained strength and competitive advantage by the free flowing exchange of ideas. I am very grateful to Jaime for creating the environment for those conditions to exist with the 2011 Crossmen creative team.
Today is Doc Jones birthday. Some of the staff are treating Doc to a late night out after rehearsal. I tag along in order to get to know everyone a little better and spend some quality time with them away from drum corps. We have a blast and Doc is well taken care of. I didn't realize the quality of Karaoke talent we had on our staff. Tommy's rendition of Prince's "Purple Rain" was inspiring! Thanks to Grant for being our designated pilot for the evening.
