Crossmen Tour 37 "renewal" Day 9
Sunday, June 26th Monmouth Area HS, Monmouth, NJ-Old Bridge, NJ Show Day
The Old Bridge Show seemed like another home show for the 2011 Crossmen. The number of Crossmen alums present was pretty incredible. The support of the Crossmen Alumni Association is invaluable. With over 3000 past members, the Crossmen has one of the largest legacy groups in our activity. Their love for the corps is undying and their support is felt everywhere we go. They are a critical component to keeping the corps alive and viable. Their support of the Club Unity membership drive, donations for equipment purchases, member scholorships and countless hours of volunteer work make our task and mission possible. Bill Speakman from YEA was working the gate tonight and remarked to me just how many Crossmen alums he had recognized. He told me that they are out in force. They proved it too when the corps entered the field as they were on their feet and very vocal. Crossmen were on after intermission and this is our first competition under the lights. The feeling is electric. Bones makes his first appearance of the season with his cape fully extended like a protective mantle in the back grandstands during the warm up. Buck Palmer cued the front ensemble to steal a three second glimpse as their backs were to our famous specter. The corps is jazzed by his presence.
I was stopped many times tonight by alumni that are in love with the music, uniform changes and the overall strength of the corps. The power of the hornline, talent of the battery and front ensemble and the great performance given by our guard tonight has all of them excited. I heard many times that the corps is "back" and the alumni are proud.
No moss grows under our wheels this summer! We load and after snack hit the Jersey Turnpike for a short 2.5 hour trip to Connecticut. Man this weather is georgeous!
