Neil Adkison - Visual Instruction

Neil Adkison has worked with a number of high school and independent ensembles nationwide.  To highlight, Neil has taught Poway HS and Mt. Carmel HS in California, LD Bell HS in Texas, and Northmont HS and Centerville HS in Ohio. While in Ohio, Neil taught Rhythm X Winds during the WGI Winds inaugural season and worked with the ensemble from 2015-2017.  During his time with X winds, the group won 2 out of 3 world championships and one silver medal in the Independent World Class division.  

Neil has been involved with DCI for 20 years as a performer and instructor. As a performer, Neil spent 2 years with the San Diego Earthquake drum and bugle corps, then spent his remaining 5 seasons with the Concord Blue Devils.  He then went on to teach drum corps including time spent with Blue Devils B, Santa Clara Vanguard, The Madison Scouts, Carolina Crown, and just finished spending 4 years as the Visual Caption Head for The Blue Knights out of Denver, Colorado.

Neil’s marching and teaching career have also led him to perform and instruct internationally. In the summer of 2000, he traveled to Europe as a member of the Blue Devils where they performed in Germany, France, Amsterdam, and Belgium. In the summer of 2001 a select group of members performed in Vancouver, B.C. and in October of 2002 he performed in Japan one last time as a Blue Devil at the Okayama Marching Band Championships. In November of 2016, Neil traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia to work with the NSDQ drum corps as they won their first ever IDCC (Indonesian Drum Corps Championships) title.

Neil currently resides in Seattle WA and works with the Kamiak high school marching band in Mukilteo WA and is a consultant for the Blue Knights Winds for their inaugural season. Outside of band, Neil is a special education resource teacher at Aces high school and Harbour Pointe middle school, both in Mukilteo WA. In his free time, Neil loves exploring his new home state of Washington with his fiancé and taking their dogs on walks on the beach. Neil is very excited to join this visual team and spend 2019 with the Crossmen!
