Matthew Hurtado - Visual Instruction

Matthew Hurtado is a visual technician, choreographer, masterclass instructor, private teacher, and freelance musician in the San Antonio, TX area. Additionally, he plays baritone with the San Antonio Brass Band, conducts with the Pride of San Antonio Showband, and was a former instructor at Crossmen Winds for the 2019 season.

This past summer Hurtado traveled to Tokyo, Japan as a trombone performer for “Oto Utage”, a live, interactive stage show set to the theme of the popular anime One Piece. This experience left a huge impact on Hurtado which ultimately led to his decision to pursue teaching in Japan. Recently, Hurtado accepted a position at Horizon Japan International School as a Primary Music Teacher in Yokohama, Japan for the 2019-2020 school year.

Hurtado marched Crossmen from 2009-2011 and Blue Devils 2012-2013 as a baritone player. He graduated from Texas State University (where he was a visual technician for Dripping Springs HS and Bowie HS) with a BM in Music Education (c/o 2015) and Louisiana State University with a MM in Euphonium Performance (c/o 2017).

Hurtado is excited to return to Crossmen, his "home team", as part of the visual staff for the 2019 season! GO BONES!
